Nigerian singer Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, better known as Bella Shmurda, has voiced concern over the soaring cost of music promotion, warning that many artists are now reluctant to release new projects. Speaking with Naija FM Lagos, the Cash App hitmaker said the financial strain of promoting albums has become unbearable for most musicians.
According to him, producing visuals alone has become prohibitively expensive, with music videos now costing at least ₦20 million each. ‘For an album, you’re promoting 10 to 14 songs all at once,’ he said, adding that few artists can afford to shoot multiple videos or sustain radio promotion.

Bella Shmurda noted that while singles remain manageable, the cost of producing and marketing full albums continues to discourage creativity within Nigeria’s music industry.
