Benue Govt Raids Ortom’s Automobile Shop, Seizes Vehicles

An Asset Recovery Committee set up by Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, on Tuesday, raided an automobile shop owned by ex-Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, the state capital.

Some vehicles were seized during the operation, prompting a reaction from the Publicity Secretary of the state’s Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mr. Bemgba Iortyom, who labelled the action a witch hunt, and a display of tyranny and impunity.

Mr. Iortyom said the seized vehicles were taken to the shop for repairs by private owners, and were not from any public source.

Governor Alia, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, said all 29 government house vehicles were looted by the former governor when he left office.
