At least 17 people have been killed in attacks by suspected Boko Haram fighters on communities in Guzamala and Nganzai Local Government Areas of Borno State. The killings occurred in Guzamala-Abbari village and nearby settlements.
The Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, who represents the affected constituency, confirmed the incident and expressed sympathy to the families of the victims. He said 12 bodies were recovered from Guzamala-Abbari village and buried in Monguno according to Islamic rites.
Mr Lawan added that five other bodies were recovered from a nearby settlement in Nganzai Local Government Area and buried in Gajiram town. He said search and rescue operations were ongoing, as several residents were still missing.

Gudumbali, the headquarters of Guzamala Local Government Area, has remained deserted for years and is under the control of Boko Haram. The Speaker renewed calls on the federal government and the military to reclaim the area and restore civil authority, noting that the attacked village is about 15 kilometres from the newly resettled Mairari community.
