At least five soldiers have been killed in coordinated attacks by Boko Haram fighters on military bases in Borno State. The insurgents reportedly targeted the 24 Task Force Brigade in Dikwa and the third battalion base in the Rann area of Kala Balge district in the early hours of Tuesday.
The attackers used surveillance drones before striking the Dikwa base. A soldier involved in the response said Nigerian Air Force jets were deployed to support ground troops, killing several insurgents during the counterattack.

In Rann, located about 65 kilometres from Dikwa, a local official confirmed five fatalities and four soldiers wounded. The attackers also destroyed a mine-resistant vehicle, a gun truck, and a Russian-made T-72 tank before retreating as air support arrived.
This marks the second attack on military installations in the state within 48 hours. On Monday, five soldiers were also killed in a separate assault on a base in Marte. The recent surge in violence follows renewed security measures in parts of Borno, including a fuel sales ban in Bama LGA announced by Governor Babagana Zulum.
