At least six people have been killed and several others injured after two adjoining buildings collapsed in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. The incident happened on Sunday in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighbourhood, according to the head of the municipal council, Abdel Hamid Karimeh, who said at least seven people were wounded.
Rescue operations are continuing, with civil defence teams, the Lebanese Red Cross and other emergency agencies searching for people believed to be trapped under the rubble. Residents joined the efforts, while security forces evacuated nearby buildings over fears of further collapses, and the state news agency reported that several injured people had been pulled from the debris.

Lebanon’s President, Joseph Aoun, ordered all emergency services to remain on high alert, while Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the government would provide housing support for residents forced to evacuate. The collapse comes amid longstanding concerns over ageing infrastructure in the country, following years of economic crisis and neglect.
