In one of the fiercest escalations since last year’s ceasefire, Israel has launched a wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon, targeting what it calls Hezbollah infrastructure. The strikes hit the Nabatieh region, about 12 kilometers from the Israeli border, killing one person and injuring eight others, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
Massive plumes of smoke could be seen as civilians fled the bombarded areas. The Israeli military confirmed the operation but gave no further details. Hezbollah has yet to officially respond, though it previously stated its fighters had withdrawn from the border under the terms of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun says he is closely monitoring the situation, while Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, urging Israel to respect UN Resolution 1701 and withdraw from Lebanese territory.
Despite last year’s truce, both sides accuse each other of ongoing violations. Under the ceasefire, Hezbollah is not allowed to operate south of the Litani River, while Israel is required to withdraw and permit Lebanese military deployment — a promise Beirut says Israel continues to break.
