Building Collapse Sparks Panic in Mushin

Tragedy struck the Mushin area of Lagos on Sunday afternoon following the sudden collapse of a one-storey building under construction. The incident, which occurred at 96 Ishaga Road—opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque—left an unknown number of individuals trapped beneath the rubble.

Emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, responded swiftly to the scene. Three people were rescued alive from the debris, though their identities were yet to be confirmed by Sunday evening.

Officials have confirmed that at least one adult male was pulled out and stabilised, while rescue operations continued late into the night amid concerns that more victims remained trapped.

The cause of the collapse remains unclear, but authorities are expected to launch an investigation once search and recovery efforts conclude.

Structural failures remain a recurring concern in parts of Lagos, where rapid urban development often outpaces regulatory enforcement.
