The Borno State Government has decided to scale back its Independence Day celebration this year in light of the recent flood that devastated Maiduguri Metropolis and other surrounding local government areas.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, while making the announcement on Monday, called for collective reflection and solidarity during this challenging time.

The flood, which affected hundreds of families, caused severe destruction and damaged vital infrastructure including hospitals, schools, roads and bridges.

Professor Tar also conveyed Governor Babagana Zulum’s deep sympathy for everyone affected, as he called on citizens to unite in prayer for the state and nation as a whole.
