Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, has been named ‘Central Bank Governor of the Year’ by ‘African Banker’ magazine at the 2025 African Banker Awards held in Abidjan.
The award acknowledges Mr. Cardoso’s sweeping reforms aimed at stabilising the naira, restoring investor confidence, and strengthening monetary policy in Nigeria—Africa’s largest economy.
Since assuming office, Mr. Cardoso has introduced greater transparency in the foreign exchange market and taken firm steps to combat inflation, moves seen as key in reversing years of fiscal uncertainty.
