The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has said the military is streamlining its foreign partnerships to ensure they do not compromise national sovereignty. He spoke during a session with a joint House of Representatives committee where he was defending the 2026 defence budget.
Oluyede said partnerships with allied countries help address intelligence shortfalls and improve responses to security threats. He said the armed forces are acting on shared intelligence to make operations more effective.
The defence chief added that the military must be selective in its collaborations to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and operate within guidelines set by the president.
He also noted improvements in security conditions in some regions while highlighting continuing challenges in others, and urged increased support for police and civil defence agencies to bolster national security.
