The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has temporarily relocated to Benue State to oversee military operations following a wave of attacks that have left at least 270 people dead in the past two months.
Arriving in Benue on Tuesday with senior military officers, Lt. Gen. Oluyede held a closed-door meeting with Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi and pledged intensified efforts to restore security in the worst-hit communities.

The violence has spanned 10 local government areas, with the Sankera axis recording 83 deaths in just five days in April, and 43 people killed in a single day on June 1 in Gwer West and Apa LGAs.
Meanwhile, security experts and lawmakers, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, have called for decisive action, urging the federal government to overhaul security leadership and convene a national summit to tackle the crisis.
