Retired Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar has thanked President Bola Tinubu for conferring on him the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
Umar’s name was initially omitted from the June 12 honourees list but was later included, with the president citing an oversight.

A key figure in the campaign to validate the June 12, 1993 election, Umar was praised by Tinubu as a “soldier of democracy.”
Umar, however, questioned why many unsung heroes of the struggle were left unrecognised.
