Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Disappointing Run

Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Disappointing Run

Chelsea Football Club have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior after just 107 days in charge, following a run of poor results. The decision was confirmed on Wednesday, with the club stating that recent performances fell below expected standards. The club also expressed appreciation for Rosenior and his staff, but said a change was necessary at this stage of the season.

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim head coach until the end of the campaign. He will oversee the team as they continue their push for a European place and aim for further progress in the FA Cup. The club says it is already considering options for a permanent replacement.

Rosenior’s tenure began on a positive note, with 11 wins from 23 matches and limited early setbacks. Initial defeats came against Arsenal FC in the Carabao Cup, while his first Premier League loss came later in his seventh match. However, a heavy Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain marked a turning point in the team’s form.

Chelsea’s performances declined sharply after that result, with six consecutive defeats in all competitions, no goals scored, and 14 conceded. The team also suffered five straight Premier League losses without scoring, including a heavy defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, their worst run in over a century. A 7-0 FA Cup win against Port Vale stood out as the only recent success. The club currently sits seventh in the league on 48 points from 34 matches and faces the risk of missing out on European competition next season.
