A Kano State High Court has affirmed Abdullahi Abiya as the authentic Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Kano State. The court nullified the dissolution of the party’s state leadership by the National Working Committee, ruling that the action was unconstitutional and beyond its powers.
The case was presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, following a suit filed by Abdullahi Abiya challenging the dissolution and the emergence of a parallel leadership. Abdullahi Abiya had also asked the court to stop Hon. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa from parading himself as chairman of the party in the state.
In his judgment, Justice Nasiru Saminu set aside the dissolution and granted a perpetual injunction restraining the party and its agents from interfering with the tenure of duly elected executives at the state, local government, and ward levels. The court also upheld the expulsion of Hon. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa from the party, declaring it valid and in line with the party constitution.
