A Federal High Court in Abuja has recognised the Nenadi Usman-led executive committee of the Labour Party and removed Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman. Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, ruling that Abure’s tenure had elapsed.
The court relied on the April 4, 2025, verdict of the Supreme Court to declare Senator Nenadi Usman as the valid leader of the party. Justice Lifu said the evidence before the court clearly showed that Abure no longer had a legal basis to remain in office.
Justice Lifu also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately recognise the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the only legitimate authority representing the Labour Party, pending the conduct of a national convention.

The judgment followed a suit filed by Senator Usman, with Julius Abure and the Nigerian Labour Congress listed as defendants. The court dismissed Abure’s argument that the dispute was an internal party matter, ruling that the caretaker committee was a necessity arising from the Supreme Court’s decision.
