Court Grants Abba Kyari Two Weeks Bail For Mother’s Burial Rites

A Federal High court in Abuja has granted a two-week bail to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team.

In the ruling delivered on Tuesday, the presiding judge, Emeka Nwite, said the bail is to enable Kyari to conclude the burial rites of his mother, Yachilla Kyari, who died on May 5.

The judge ordered that Mr Kyari should deposit his international passport with the court and report to any National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, formation nearest to him, within the period of the bail.

The judge also fixed 31st May for the determination of Mr Kyari’s main application for bail in the drug trafficking charge.

The suspended police officer was arrested on February 14th in 2022, after the NDLEA declared him wanted over his alleged connection with an international drug cartel. He has been in detention since his arrest.
