The Federal Government has confirmed that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will reopen on Monday, 28 March, following the early completion of essential runway repairs.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who noted that work was concluded well ahead of the initial 6 May deadline.
The airport had been temporarily closed on 19 April after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, detected a significant rupture in the asphalt at a critical section of the runway.

In a statement at the time, FAAN explained that urgent remedial work would be undertaken between 22 April and 6 May to ensure operational safety.
Authorities have now confirmed that repairs were completed faster than anticipated, allowing for an earlier reopening and the resumption of normal flight operations.
