Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court in Abuja has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, to death by hanging.
The court found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide, ruling that the prosecution proved he was responsible for Osinachi’s death in April 2022.

Nwachukwu was arraigned on a 23-count charge, including spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation. The prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the couple’s children.
Before sentencing, his lawyer pleaded for leniency, but the court imposed the death penalty and additional prison terms and fines for other offences. Osinachi’s death at 42 sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria.
