The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has confirmed laying off some workers but insists only a small number were affected in what it described as a reorganisation exercise.
In a statement on Friday, the company said the decision followed repeated acts of sabotage that had raised safety concerns and disrupted operations. It added that more than 3,000 Nigerians remain employed at the facility.

The refinery stressed that the move was not arbitrary and reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ rights, safety, and international labour standards. It said recruitment of graduates and experienced staff was ongoing.
Earlier, the oil workers’ union PENGASSAN said it was engaging management over the sackings, promising to work towards a resolution.
