Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has told troops fighting banditry and terrorism to engage armed criminals immediately, without waiting for orders, warning that any officer who hesitates would be treated as an accomplice.
Musa spoke Wednesday in Sokoto while commissioning a ₦27.127 billion security package from the Sokoto State Government, comprising 62 vehicles, including armoured personnel carriers, alongside 320 motorcycles, night-vision goggles, and thousands of protective gear.
“Once you are deployed, do not wait for any order from anybody to shoot any bandit or any terrorist. Anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat you like a bandit.”
He also cautioned troops against mistreating civilians, telling them not to “extort or harass the people” and to focus on protecting communities while confronting criminals.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who named a Sokoto road after Musa, said the state has now spent over ₦63 billion on security since taking office.
