Renegade General Khalifa Haftar, whose forces dominate eastern Libya, has held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
The meeting was confirmed by General Haftar’s forces and the Kremlin.
According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the situation in Libya and the region as a whole formed a part of their discussion.
Libyan media reports that this is the first meeting between the two men since 2019.
General Haftar, who sponsors a rival administration to Libya’s UN-backed government in Tripoli, is known to have close relations with Moscow and relies heavily on Russian mercenary group Wagner.
