The Ebonyi State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦90,000 for civil and public servants, an increase of ₦20,000 from the previous ₦70,000. Officials say the adjustment takes immediate effect following an Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.
Information Commissioner Ikeuwa Collins-Omebeh, who said the decision aligns with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s Agenda, described it as a demonstration of his commitment to workers’ welfare.

The council also approved plans to establish a Virology Research and Innovative Centre, designed to boost disease surveillance, diagnosis, and training in line with global health standards.
The development comes a day after Imo State raised its minimum wage to ₦104,000. The changes follow the new National Minimum Wage Act signed by President Bola Tinubu last year, which set a baseline of ₦70,000 but allowed states to go higher.
