Effiong Demands ₦100m Compensation for Teen Wrongly Jailed for Armed Robbery

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has demanded ₦100 million in compensation from the Nigerian Police Force over the wrongful detention of 17-year-old Alabi Quadri, who was released from Kirikiri Prison on Thursday.

Quadri, who gained attention after standing in front of Peter Obi’s convoy ahead of the 2023 elections, was arrested and charged with armed robbery—an allegation his family strongly denied. He was freed by Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi following a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dr Babajide Martins, which cleared him of wrongdoing.

Effiong, speaking to journalists in Lagos, called for the immediate dismissal and trial of the Divisional Police Officer of Amukoko Division, Inspector Odigbe Samuel, and other officers involved in what he described as a corrupt and malicious attempt to frame the teenager.

He also demanded a public apology to Quadri and warned that legal action would be taken if the police fail to meet the compensation and disciplinary demands without delay.
