Emefiele-Linked Seized Abuja Estate Should House Low-Income Nigerians, Say Reps

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to allocate the forfeited Abuja estate linked to former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele to low- and middle-income earners, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups. The 753-unit estate in Lokogoma, Abuja, was handed over to the Ministry of Housing by the EFCC after a court-ordered forfeiture.

Moving the motion, Jafaru Gambo Leko said the estate, acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities, represents a major milestone in the anti-corruption drive. He warned, however, that without transparency, it could end up in the hands of privileged elites.

Lawmakers have directed the Ministry of Housing to publish a clear allocation framework within 60 days and prioritise ordinary Nigerians, stressing that recovered assets must tangibly improve citizens’ welfare.
