The Enugu State Caucus in the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind the Federal Government’s plan to concession the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, calling it a major step toward economic transformation in the South East.
In a statement signed by all eight federal lawmakers from the state, the caucus described the move as a well-established Public-Private Partnership model that will bring in private investment without ceding ownership of the airport. They urged the government to fast-track the process so the region and the country can begin to enjoy its full benefits.

The lawmakers clarified that the concession plan is not a sale or privatisation, but a structured investment approach in which the government retains control while allowing private investors to upgrade and operate the airport.
They also appealed to people of the South East to support the initiative, which they say will turn the airport into a world-class facility and serve as a catalyst for sustainable regional development.
