Egypt has urged the International Court of Justice, ICJ, to find Israel in breach of its obligations as an occupying power, citing alleged systematic violations of international law and obstruction of aid into Gaza.
The arguments, delivered in The Hague on Monday by Ambassador Hatem Abdelkader and legal adviser Yasmine Moussa, form part of hearings initiated by a UN General Assembly request for an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation.

Cairo accused Israel of pursuing what it labelled as “widespread, systematic” measures aimed at de facto annexation of Palestinian land. It cited public statements by Israeli officials, Knesset legislation, and efforts to weaken the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, as evidence of a broader strategy to deny Palestinians their right of return.
Several other states are expected to present their cases this week as the ICJ examines claims of serious breaches of international humanitarian and human rights law.
