Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory have begun a one-week warning strike, citing systemic failures in the territory’s health sector. The action, announced on Monday, follows weeks of complaints over manpower shortages, unpaid allowances and poor working conditions.
In a communiqué signed by the association’s president, Dr George Ebong, the doctors said structural deficiencies have crippled healthcare delivery in the FCT. They warned that without urgent reforms, the system risks collapse.

The association highlighted challenges, including non-functional equipment, delayed promotions, and underpayment of staff. It stressed that morale and efficiency are at their lowest point, with many doctors overstretched and forced to manage multiple departments.
The doctors are demanding quick intervention from the government and greater involvement of frontline workers in decision-making. They have warned that failure to meet their demands could lead to further industrial action.
