Federal Government to Demolish 700 Properties for Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Not 1,500

The Federal Government is to demolish 700 properties to make way for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, significantly scaling back initial estimates.

According to the Lagos State Controller of Works, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the revised figure marks a reduction from the earlier projection of 1,500 demolitions. She made the disclosure during a stakeholder engagement held on Monday.

Mrs Kesha described progress on the project as commendable, noting that Section One, spanning over 47 kilometres, had already been awarded and was moving steadily.

While acknowledging public concerns over property alignment, she clarified that the ministry was not obligated to adhere to previously proposed routes. She maintained that due consideration was being given to engineering and environmental factors.

The coastal highway, expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity across the southern corridor, remains a key infrastructure priority for the current administration.
