FG Does Not Interfere in EFCC, ICPC Investigations says Attorney General

Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, says the federal government does not interfere in the work of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.

Speaking at a retreat of the justice ministry in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Fagbemi said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to strengthening the independence of the anti-graft agencies.

He explained that investigations are handled entirely by the EFCC and ICPC, with the justice ministry only stepping in after probes are concluded to assess gaps or recommend further inquiries.

The Attorney-General stressed that the constitution guarantees the autonomy of the anti-graft bodies and reiterated government’s determination to fight corruption to a standstill for national development.
