The Federal Government has pledged swift intervention and long-term support for Mokwa, Niger State, following devastating floods that ravaged the area.
Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the community on Wednesday, announcing a relief package of ₦2 billion and 20 truckloads of grains. He assured residents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to immediate action and sustainable disaster prevention.
Received by Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba and traditional ruler HRH Yahaya Abubakar, the Vice President described the disaster as a national sorrow. He said Mokwa’s role as a key agricultural and cultural link between North and South made its tragedy a shared burden.

While offering condolences, Senator Shettima stressed the need for a united national response and proactive ecological solutions.
The Vice President reaffirmed that rebuilding efforts would restore Mokwa’s vibrancy and called for long-term investment in environmental resilience to prevent future catastrophes.
