Fire gutted the popular 10-storey Mandilas Building, located on Broad Street on Lagos Island, yesterday, destroying items and properties worth several millions of naira in the process.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, says no lives were lost in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from a warehouse on the first floor of the building before spreading to other floors.
Men of the state Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Police, and other emergency responders raced to the scene to put out the fire, and were singled out for praise by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Affected traders who later stormed the scene were seen salvaging some of their wares and other valuable items.
