A fire on Monday evening damaged part of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt, destroying several offices and property. The blaze, which began on the ground floor of the Podium Block after office hours, affected parts of the nine-storey building.
State Head of Service, Mrs. Inyinge Brown, confirmed that the incident was caused by an electrical fault, adding that no lives were lost. Firefighters from the state and federal services, alongside Renaissance and military teams, contained the fire after a swift response.

Mrs. Brown commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s earlier investments in the state’s fire service, which she said helped prevent greater damage. She urged civil servants to adopt safety measures by switching off and unplugging electrical appliances after work. The government has pledged to begin repairs on the affected section soon.
