Floods, Landslides Kill 18 People in Kenya

At least 18 people have been killed in floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains across parts of Kenya. Police confirmed the deaths on Sunday, the 3rd of May 2026, following incidents in several counties.

The landslides were reported in Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Kiambu counties, affecting communities in central and eastern regions of the country. Authorities say multiple families have been displaced, with homes and infrastructure damaged.

In the capital, Nairobi, streets were flooded, forcing residents to wade through water while traders in areas including Makongeni and Ruai staged protests over poor road conditions worsened by the rains.
