Former presidential aide and political strategist, Doyin Okupe, has passed away at the age of 72. Family sources confirmed that he died in the early hours of Friday. Mr. Okupe, a medical doctor from Ogun State, was a key political figure who served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described Okupe’s passing as a “profound personal loss,” acknowledging his contributions to politics and public service. He noted that despite Okupe’s shifting political affiliations, his personal relationships remained strong.

Mr. Okupe had publicly disclosed his battle with cancer last year, which he said caused significant weight loss. Before his political career, he practised as a medical doctor before transitioning into politics, where he played significant roles in various administrations.
