Gaza ‘Worse Than Hell’, Says Red Cross Chief as Crisis Deepens

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, has said that Gaza is now, in her own words, ‘worse than hell on earth’, warning that ‘humanity is failing’ as the war assault on the region goes on.

Speaking from the ICRC headquarters in Geneva, Ms Spoljaric said the destruction, suffering, and stripping of human dignity in Gaza had reached levels that defy legal, moral, and humanitarian standards.

Her remarks come amid mounting global concern over civilian casualties and deteriorating conditions in the enclave.

She called on world powers to act urgently to end hostilities, ease Palestinian suffering, and ensure the release of Israeli hostages.

As custodian of the Geneva Conventions, the ICRC’s plea carries significant moral weight. The organisation, a three-time Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has worked for over 160 years to protect civilians in conflict.

Her words are a stark rebuke to global inaction.
