The Federal Government has inaugurated a Special Task Force to enforce stricter compliance with fire safety regulations following a wave of devastating urban fires. The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, launched the initiative in Abuja after recent incidents, including the Afriland Tower inferno in Lagos and multiple plaza fires in Abuja.
Adeyemi said the new task force would begin mapping and auditing public and private buildings nationwide, classifying them by risk and recommending enforcement measures. He emphasised that fire safety “is not a choice but a shared responsibility.”

Chaired by Assistant Controller General Bolarinde Tajudeen Muhammed, the team includes senior officers from key departments. Adeyemi urged full cooperation from building owners, warning that prevention through compliance is now non-negotiable.
