Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign may face fresh disruption as Guinea reportedly sets sights on Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
The Malian tactician, unbeaten since taking over earlier this year, is said to be under consideration by Guinea’s football federation following delays in negotiations with their preferred candidate, Paulo Duarte. Coach Chelle’s stock has risen after guiding Nigeria’s home-based Eagles to Unity Cup success in London and previously steering Mali to the 2023 AFCON quarterfinals.

With Guinea’s qualifiers against Somalia and Algeria looming, interim sports president Sory Doumbouya is believed to have opened informal talks with Chelle, currently in Zanzibar with Nigeria’s CHAN squad.
Though not Guinea’s first choice, Coach Chelle’s regional experience makes him a viable alternative.
His exit would be a blow for Nigeria, who are already under pressure in Group C after a poor start to their qualification campaign.
