At least 58 people were killed in Israeli air and ground assaults across Gaza on Monday, in one of the heaviest days of bombardment in weeks.
Israeli tanks pushed into eastern Zeitoun while airstrikes targeted northern districts and four schools sheltering displaced families. A beachfront café was also hit, killing 20, including children and a journalist.

Despite U.S. pressure for a ceasefire, with a Netanyahu aide due in Washington, fighting showed no signs of easing.
The Israeli military claimed it targeted militant infrastructure and took steps to minimise civilian harm.
The Palestinian Journalist Syndicate said 220 journalists have died in Gaza since October.
