IG To Withdraw Mobile Police From VIPs, Establishes Special Squad

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced plans to withdraw Police Mobile Force personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.

He said this at a meeting with Squadron leaders and Tactical Commanders in Abuja yesterday.

The Acting IGP also announced the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad which will have 40,000 highly trained police officers including selected officers from the Police Mobile Force.

He says these steps were taken to allow the police to take back its place in the “internal security architecture” of the country.

Acting I-G Egbetokun added that the establishment of the special intervention squad will help the police respond promptly to security threats, noting that 1000 personnel will be deployed to every state.

He said the withdrawn Police Mobile Force officers will be replaced by officers from the Special Protection Unit.
