Troops of 5 Battalion operating under the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have discovered an armoury in a camp at Azuzuama Community in Ijaw South Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
In a statement, army spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the camp is where suspected unrepentant militants and illegal oil bunkerers carried out their activities.
According to the Brigadier General, the military engaged in a gunfight with the suspected militants, forcing them to abandon their camp in disarray.
The operation led to the recovery of AK 47 rifles, grenades, special ammunition, rifle magazines and other weapons.
Brigadier General Nwachukwu says the camp was destroyed by the troops.
He expressed the appreciation of the Nigerian Army to the public and urged all to continue to provide timely and credible information in support of the ongoing effort to ensure that oil theft in the South-South region comes to zero level.
