The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a swift response following an attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State. The assault, carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday, resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left one other critically injured.
The terrorists exchanged gunfire with officers on duty at the station before being repelled with the aid of the civilian joint taskforce stationed nearby. The attack occurred at around 12:10 AM on Thursday. The fallen officers were identified as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.

In a statement issued on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi confirmed that Egbetokun condemned the attack and instructed a thorough crackdown on those responsible. The IGP emphasised that “any cop-killers will not go unpunished.”
Egbetokun also extended condolences to the families of the slain officers, assuring that their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten. He promised immediate payment of all benefits and entitlements to the families of the deceased.
