The Federal Government has announced the complete closure of the Ijora Bridge in Lagos from 27 April to allow for essential structural repairs.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, confirmed the decision during an inspection of the site on Monday. She explained that the bridge, which links Ijora Causeway to Apapa—gateway to the Tincan and Apapa ports—requires critical attention, particularly the replacement of damaged bearings beneath its deck.

While acknowledging the likely disruption to traffic flow, she stressed the urgency of the repairs to safeguard commuters and prevent further degradation of the structure.
To manage congestion, vehicles approaching from Ijora will be rerouted through the Seven Up Roundabout to access Apapa. Heavy-duty trucks are to be diverted via Costain and Iganmu.
Mrs Kesha assured the public that diversion plans had been carefully mapped out, with efforts underway to minimise delays throughout the repair period.
