Ikeja, Lagos Island and Lekki Top Crime Charts in Lagos, Says Justice Ministry

Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki have been identified as Lagos State’s leading crime hotspots, according to data from the Lagos State Criminal Information System, LCIS.

The figures were released during a ministerial briefing by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro SAN, to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

Between 2018 and May 2025, the LCIS recorded 74,962 cases involving suspects and inmates across the state. Mr. Pedro raised concerns over the strain on correctional facilities, which are reportedly operating at 106 per cent above capacity.

He described the LCIS as a cornerstone of the state’s justice reforms, helping to track cases, improve transparency, and speed up judicial processes.

From January 2024 to May 2025 alone, more than 10,000 cases passed through the system, with 64 per cent resolved through plea bargains.

Meanwhile, 6,601 petitions on civil rights issues were logged, with the majority resolved amicably.
