Former Social Democratic Party, SDP, presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo says he is willing to withdraw from the 2027 race if a stronger candidate emerges to lead his party.
Speaking in a televised interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, Mr Adebayo pledged that the SDP would present a credible contender capable of unseating President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

His remarks come as opposition forces intensify talks on a broad coalition. On March 20, key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, formally announced an alliance aimed at defeating Tinubu.
The coalition is banking on the combined strength of Atiku and Obi, who together secured over 12 million votes in 2023, more than four million ahead of President Tinubu’s total. With inflation soaring and the cost of living at record levels, opposition leaders believe public discontent could bolster their chances in 2027.
