The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the purported declaration of Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the Governorship election in Adamawa as null and void.
Senator Binani was declared winner of the exercise by Hudu Ari Yunusa, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in a move which has been described as illegal.
In an INEC statement published yesterday, Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, says only the Returning Officer for the election is constitutionally mandated to make returns.

He also added that the election had not been concluded when the said illegal declaration was made.
INEC has suspended collation and summoned the REC and all other officials involved in the incident to its headquarters in Abuja.
