The Inter-Party Advisory Council has called on political parties to boycott the August 30 local government elections in Rivers State. The polls were announced in July by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
National chairman Yusuf Dantalle described the planned exercise as unconstitutional and a mockery of democracy, arguing that sole administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas has no mandate to conduct such polls. He said only an elected governor, working with the state assembly, can legally organise local government elections.

Dantalle criticised party chairpersons in Rivers who back the polls, describing them as fake and accusing them of endorsing illegality. He warned that the administrator cannot assume powers beyond the constitution.
In a letter to President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, the House Speaker, the INEC chairman, the Inspector-General of Police and the DSS Director-General, IPAC urged that no election be held until democratic order is restored, and pledged to explore other legal steps if its demand is ignored.
