Lawyers in Bayelsa State boycotted court proceedings on Monday in a coordinated show of protest following the abduction of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro of the State High Court.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yenagoa Branch, described the move as a solemn act of solidarity and a call for urgent action. Justice Omukoro was kidnapped on Saturday evening, 21st June, by masked gunmen outside a restaurant near Ekeki Park in Yenagoa.

In place of street protests, lawyers gathered at the High Court in full robes, issuing letters to the Police Commissioner and DSS Director demanding swift intervention.

NBA Chairman, Barrister Somina Johnbull, condemned the abduction as an attack on the judiciary and pledged to keep the pressure on until the judge is freed.

Justice Omukoro’s whereabouts remain unknown. Security agencies are yet to confirm any leads.
