The International Press Institute (IPI) has condemned the expulsion of two Channels Television journalists from the Akwa Ibom State Government House, calling it a violation of press freedom and constitutional rights.
The move followed a broadcast showing Governor Umo Eno allegedly confirming plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by IPI Advocacy Committee officials, the Institute described the state government’s actions as reckless, unlawful, and deeply concerning.

The journalists involved are said to be seasoned professionals with extensive knowledge of governance in the state.
IPI reminded Governor Eno of his public image as media-friendly, warning that silencing journalists undermines democracy and violates Section 22 of Nigeria’s Constitution.
The Institute has called for their immediate reinstatement and urged the government to respect independent journalism.
