The death toll from five days of United States and Israeli strikes on Iran has climbed to 1,045, according to Iranian state media. As the conflict spreads across the region, Turkiye says a ballistic missile fired from Iran was intercepted by NATO air defence systems in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The intended target was not immediately confirmed.
Meanwhile, the United States says one of its submarines sank an Iranian warship with a torpedo in international waters off Sri Lanka. While in Israel, the military reports that Iran has been firing fewer missiles following strikes on launch sites and stockpiles. Israeli officials say about 300 ballistic missile launchers have been neutralised.
In Washington, the US Senate is moving toward a vote on a war powers resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s authority to continue military action without congressional approval. Democratic lawmakers have criticised the administration’s justification for the strikes, warning of a possible prolonged conflict. However, the measure faces strong opposition in the Republican controlled Congress.
