Following the deadly ambush in Niger State that left at least 20 soldiers dead, the Nigerian Senate has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Armed Forces and security agencies to urgently step up operations and adopt modern strategies to tackle rising insecurity.
During Thursday’s plenary, lawmakers observed a minute of silence for the slain soldiers and expressed deep concern over the increasing boldness of armed groups across the country.

The Senate called for scientific and technological solutions, greater collaboration with international partners, and urgent reforms in the security sector.
The motion—sponsored by Senators from Niger State—highlighted the worsening crisis in Mariga Local Government Area, where bandits continue to operate with impunity.
Lawmakers stressed that conventional methods alone are no longer sufficient, and called for a coordinated, intelligence-led approach to reclaim areas under criminal control.
